I'm originally from Washington state where I had hoped to return after college, but it wasn't meant to be (at least not yet). I came all the way to BYU in Utah to get my education and ended up finding Nathan, my husband, who is also from my hometown, and who I dated in high school. Why I had to come all this way beats me. I did finish my degree in Early childhood education in April 2000, however, we decided to start a family rather than have me teach. Kirsten was born in Feb. 2001, then Zachary in Nov. of 2002 and Caleb in Sept. 2006. Now my life is my family and my full time- lifetime job is wife and mother.
I got to go on the bus with Zach and his class to the nursery! First, all the classes got to create their own greenhouse (cut in half juice bottle or pop bottle)with their plants they picked out. Zach was one of the ones chosen for his class along with Averi, Sadie, and Cam. Then we went on a tour of the greenhouses; they had rolling rows of starts which were so cool. Then we came back and talked about seeds and when to plant certain things. At the end the kids all got a bulb to take home. After a week in the windowsill, Zach's blossomed and he planted it out front with nathan. Here are a couple of plants that Zach wanted to take a picture of on our tour. I loved this bright pink one because winter was still hanging on outside and the color was a welcomed sight. The kids had a competition, boys against girls to see who could put the most seeds in the tray...one per each hole. ( when the kids moved the trays the seeds would fall through and then have to start over. We needed to start over alot.) The kids busy at work seeding planting. Then they watched the machine plant the seeds in the trays. Way more effective and time efficient.Very cool field trip and informative, but fun for the kids.
